You're Not a Dog

I got a phone call yesterday from a higher authority blaming me for not addressing the company I was sending a letter to by the word: mo7tarameen. Sirs didn’t seem enough for them. We argued on the phone till he sent me the letter back so I had to do as ordered. It is considered 3aib in Arabic language. But what if I thought the company wasn’t mo7tarama?; Running away from its obligations.

It was my friend’s birthday last week. I remember noting it on my calendar last year to avoid forgetting like I always do. So this year, a few days before her birthday was due, I made sure of setting the alarm and noticed that the month is correct, according to her star sign, but the day was wrong! It was another friend’s birthday. So I, trying to be smart, changed the date by myself thinking that both friends shouldn’t have matching birthdays.
So on the due date, the notification alert rang. I proudly urged all her friends to send her a message along with mine, only to get a reply from her afterwards expressing her gratitude, but correcting the date. Yes, both friends were born on the same day, but on different months. I was ashamed not only from her but from her friends too who tried to correct me and I didn't listen. So much for self-confidence.

nice boss .. y5af 3ala i7sas el nas :p

as 4 the letter, i agree with the higher authority :p
the company is mo7tarameen until proven otherwise by the government or they stop doing business with ur company :p
i have this indian colleague who always says: "rule #1: boss is always right" so don't argue 2 much with the boss cos u will be wasting ur breath.

i am happy i don't celebrate nobody's birthdays (including mine) and nobody celebrates my birthday! so i don't have to remember any dates ..remembering the many passwords that we use at work (other than the personal ones) and the deadlines that we have 2 meet is more than enough ..my brain can't handle more :p

Poet,
Ekhaf 3ala e7sas`hom bas we7na bil 6aggag :p

I didn’t like it when he wanted a new letter. You know when printers jam and all. A notification for future letters would’ve been enough.

An Indian says boss is always right? The Indians I know think that THEY are always right :)
When I first started work, I got a worse working tip from a colleague called as the work slave “3abdat shighil” by friends. She told me that boss is the messenger “mithil el rasool” :(

I don’t celebrate birthdays either. Infact I remorse on my b-day. But it’s social obligations I guess.

Flamingoliya Why you should address them with mo7tarmeen? I don't mind having letters with No mo7tarmeen. Recently, I recieved a letter from the vice dean for a contest I won. Before my name he wrote Almo7tarim Ghassan, I didn't like it. They wrote Mo7atrim for all the winners, I don't think all of use are really Mo7tarimeen. Therefore, I think we should address no one with that phrase.

yes Ghassan, i think so too; whether the word mo7taram applies or not. i don't like the arabic language use of such words. they make me send letters or even emails with long greetings and the so-called formal language. while in the meantime, i receive short and precise ones from clients.
i once wrote a letter about myself mentioning my name as alanisa flamingoliya. They were all shocked why i didn't address myself as alsayyida flamingoliya! as if anisa is a shameful title.

W.,
Maybe because you’re jobless at the moment? It happens to me on holidays when there’s no calendar around. Learn how to use the mobile reminder, helps a lot :)

i don't like work slaves .. 2 me they r just slow ppl who can't finish their job quickly so they spend the whole day working on something any half smart worker will finish in 2 hours :p

as 4 the birthdays .. i usually used 2 forget my own birthday and then remember it after few days so i decided to put a reminder in my mobile 2 remind me of my own birthday!
